Guardians' Gavin Williams: Fans nine in defeat
4h ago
Williams (0-3) took the loss against Detroit on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over six innings.
Williams completed six frames for the first time since returning from an elbow injury to make his season debut July 20. The right-hander recorded a season-high nine punchouts and registered a quality start, but a Javy Baez three-run homer against Williams in the second inning was enough to stick him with his third loss. Williams tossed a season-high 105 pitches Thursday, so he appears to be fully clear of the elbow issue. His next start is projected to be a rematch with the Tigers on the road next week.

Orioles' Connor Norby: Goes deep in return
5h ago
Norby went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-6, extra-inning victory versus Miami on Thursday.
Norby was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to take the roster spot of Jorge Mateo, who was placed on the injured list with an elbow injury. Norby made a strong impression upon his return to the majors, belting a solo shot in the fourth inning and adding an infield single in the ninth. Norby probably isn't going to play every day, but he could stick with the big club for awhile with Mateo expected to be out for at least several weeks.

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Hit hard by Orioles
5h ago
Munoz allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Thursday.
Munoz struggled to keep the ball in the park Thursday, as three of the six hits against him were homers. He departed with a 6-0 deficit but managed to escape with a no-decision thanks to a late Miami rally. The right-hander entered the contest having not allowed a long ball in three straight outings, though home runs have been an issue for him most of the campaign -- he's yielded multiple homers in six of his 12 outings overall. Munoz has managed to stick in the rotation despite a 5.61 ERA, as Miami doesn't have many other options due to a slew of injuries to its starting staff.
