Micheal's carries peaco*ck, goose, pheasant and random feathers bags. Nothing was over $3.

Hobby Lobby is a bit of a wild card, you never know what you'll find there.

Here are a few items that are usually available:

Foam - lot's of foam options from 2mm to cheap flip flops.
Balsa wood for poppers.
Doll eyes for poppers.
Small Glass beads for nymph heads.
Metal beads for bead heads - I've had mixed results with these, they tend to be lighter weight than regular fly tying bead heads.
Bead chain - often have multiple colors and sizes.
Glues and epoxies.
Embroidery thread for weave patterns.
I've also found sticky backed Mylar sheets used to cover poppers.
Scissors and X-acto style tools.
Sometimes, they'll have tinsel and flash materials.
Some of the yarns are good, but one package would be a life time supply for the entire membership of most FF'ing clubs...

I've never found any feathers that I liked there and I've never tried using any of their sewing treads.

JoAnn's Fabric is another place to get many of the items listed and they are also good place to find good lights for your tying desk.

Remember that both Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's often have discount coupons (up to 40% off) available on their web sites.

Thanks for the help snd comments...I think I had a bust on $9 spent at Jo Annes last night! I didnt get to go to hobby lobby wife wanted jo annes instead. i got a mix bag of feathers, 2 peaco*ck eyes(has some good herl) bag og guinea feathers, pieces of chenneil, silver 28 guage jewlery making wire and some 'crling ribbon'(perfect for flashy tensil).

i came back home and made the uggliest wooly bugger you ever seen! A fish wouls just laugh, it truly looked like it was made with fabric store stuff. the chenille had wire in it so basically a pipe cleaner and the feathers i used as saddle hackle...well they didnt palmer nicely at all...i used the silver 28 guage wire in place of lead wire and it was very rigid not sure if it will allow it to sink. I just feel like i waisted $

I've bought some stuff at hobby lobby here and there, but most of the time I kinda have the same experience as you where the stuff I buy doesn't work quite as well as I wanted. I bought a ton of craft fur there when I first started tying and I won't make that mistake again. Nearly all of it was short guard hair kinda stuff and then it had little bitty patches of longer usable hairs, so most of it wound up being totally worthless.
