First, the most important thing to remember while you are shopping to stock up your food, is to try to stay calm during this time. I hope you and your family are well during this pandemic crisis.

Seeing the way the stores have (or don’t have) can be very overwhelming. I know there isn’t much on the shelves when you get there, but I still recommend getting what you can. Here are items to try to stock up on, keep checking your store for these items.

In no way am I saying hoard everything! No, just grab what you need, and make sure to leave stuff for other people.

Although it might not be exactly what you had in mind to eat, there are a lot of clever ways to cook with the food you have in your stockpile for the pandemic. If you have growing kids you know how important it is to try to make the food items stretch as long as possible. We have seven in our house so we are really trying to be clever with what we have.

What food to stock up on during this pandemic

Water

For obvious reasons, it’s good to have on hand just in case. Gettingwater, or filling used bottles up with water isn’t a bad idea while stocking up on essentials, you never know what could happen right?

Canned Fruit

If you can find some, any kind, grab somefruit. It seems like all the produce is gone so, grab WHAT YOU NEED, so it lasts long and you and your kids have something on the healthier side.

Canned meat and fish

You can never go wrong with tuna, even the tuna pouches if you can. I know canned meat doesn’t sound appealing but it’s a good source of protein if that’s the onlymeatyou can add to your stockpile then grab some.

Bars

Granola bars, Nutragrain bars, breakfast, or protein bars. These are good because they don’t expire fast, andbreakfast barshave a decent amount of nutrients.

Oatmeal/ Grits/ Cream of Wheat

You can do so much withoatmeal.It’s hearty and will keep you full, and it lasts such a long time.

Flour

If you haveflouryou can make your own stuff like bread and tortillas plus so many other things that you can feed your family.

Yeast

You might be wondering why should I add yeast to my food stockpile. But it’s so you can make your own bread. You can make multiple loaves and freeze or give to a neighbor.

Sugar

This will come in handy for when you want to bake with what you have and keep things tasting good, so things don’t get boring.

Canned or dry beans

There are so many things you can do withbeans,and it’s a good source of protein if you can’t find meat.

Canned or frozen Veggies

They last longer and you can make a lot of different things withveggies.

Spices

To make things interesting and change what you have up a bit. Seasonings can change a lot.

Cereal

This is an essential item to add to your food stockpile, because whether you eat thecerealdry or with milk you get a decent amount of nutrients. This lasts long and there are some good nutrients in it. It is great with kids and even for a snack if you or your kids get hungry, but need to reserve other food.

Freeze Dry Food

Freeze dry food, from camping orfreeze-dry foodis great because it lasts for an extremely long time.

Honey

It is good for cooking, plus if you or someone in your family who seems like they are having low blood sugar in some caseshoneycan help in emergencies .

Jerky

Also a good protein source, andjerkylasts long

Nuts and trail mix

A good thing to have that doesn’t perish quickly.Nuts or trail mixis great to give the kids too.

Pickles

A good healthy snack for kids that lasts long even after it’s opened

Popcorn

A good healthy snack that can help you and your kids feel a little more fuller.
