List of candidates who have filed for City of Loveland Council
and Loveland City School District Board of Education
By Chuck Gibson
LOVELAND, OH (August 5, 2021) – The 2021 November election draws near and the deadline for candidates to file to run for Loveland City Council openings and Loveland City School District (LCSD) Board of Education (BOE) seats has passed.
Here is a look at the “unofficial” list of candidates for Loveland City and Loveland Schools as published and updated August 4, 2021 by the Hamilton County Board of Elections (NOTE: Filed in Hamilton County, but includes Clermont County and Warren County)
Here’s the first pass look at candidates filed for the City of Loveland – Member of Council at Large with four (4) to be elected to a 4 year term. There are seven named candidates filed. Again, four (4) are to be elected. The candidates listed “unofficially” as of the Board of Elections update August 4, 2021 are:
- Timothy Butler – current member of Loveland City Council seeking reelection
- John Hart – new candidate seeking election for first time
- Kim Lukens – new candidate seeking election for first time
- Neal Oury – current member of Loveland City Council seeking reelection
- Ted Phelps – current member of Loveland City Council seeking reelection
- Kip Ping – new candidate seeking election for first time
- Dave H. Stanton – new candidate seeking election for first time.
Notable: Current council member and vice-mayor, Rob Weisgerber is officially not seeking reelection for another term. Weisgerber talked briefly with this Loveland Beacon reporter about his decision not to seek reelection at this time.
“I am reconsidering options for the future,” said Weisgerber.
While he would not go on record to discuss what future options may be, Weisgerber has long served on Loveland City Council as a council member, Mayor, and Vice-mayor. He continues to reside in Loveland. and would be eligible to run for a seat on council again in the future if he decides to do so.
Maybe the most anticipated campaigning for the 2021 November Election, the LCSD Board of Education race will include nine (9) candidates filed for 3 seats as Member of Board of Education 4-year term. There is also one (1) candidate filed for Member of Board of Education one (1) to be elected unexpired term ending 12-31-2023. Here is the first pass look at the “unofficial” candidates list for LCSD BOE as published and updated August 4, 2021 by the Hamilton County Board of Election including Clermont County and Warren County:

Of interest is the unopposed running of current appointed member of the Board of Education Kevin M. Dougherty for the Member of Board of Education Unexpired term ending 12-31-2023. In a recent telephone conversation with Dougherty, he expressed very clearly his intent to file and hopefully serve in that 2-year term. He is enthusiastic about what has been accomplished by the current board, the direction of the Loveland Schools, and continuing to improve communications with the community during the next two years. At this time Dougherty has no plans to run for reelection following the expiration of that 2-year term.
Now, here’s a look at the candidates listed for Member of Board of Education with three (3) to be elected to a 4-year term.
- Colette Boyko – Seeking election for first time
- Anna Bunker – Seeking election for first time
- Jonathan Eilert – Seeking election for first time
- Elliot Grossman – Seeking election for first time
- Al Juram – Seeking election for first time
- Elizabeth Mason – Seeking election for first time
- Michele Petit – Current BOE member seeking reelection
- Eric L Schwetschenau – Current BOE appointed member seeking election
- Eileen Washburn – Current BOE member seeking reelection
It is worthy to note among the list of BOE filed first-time candidates are two very active community members in Anna Bunker, who was one of the community voices heard during the recent school tax levy issue, and Jonathan Eilert, who many may be familiar with as Pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church here in Loveland.
